African Wildlife Sounds

Thukela Records presents a series of classic wildlife recordings that draw on archival analogue material and new digital recordings. These will be of particular interest to bird enthusiasts in pursuit of rare recordings from Zululand. Many of these are drawn from the collections of Tony Pooley. In the 1960s and 1970s Tony pioneered wildlife recording in South Africa with LP releases such as ‘Sounds of Tongaland’, ‘Wildlife Calls of Africa’, ‘Calls of the Bushveld’ (with Dick Reucassel), and ‘Birds of the Drakensberg’ (with Tony Henley). Tony was a field ranger and research scientist in the Natal Parks Board for 25 years and became a world expert on the Nile Crocodile. He published several books on his research and experiences in Zululand (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Pooley). Thukela Records has re-mastered the original recordings and will be releasing these soon. New wildlife recording projects are already under way. Watch this space!
